Moving Godward: the Desert Blogs has some interesting modern parables, in the spirit of Acorns.

Dave Winer talks about Kaye Trammel, who asks what RSS can do for you.

Dave thinks this arrangement provides commitment: "A person who subscribes to your weblog is saying they want a permanent relationship, they want to read everything you say." But there are flip sides: you don't actually know who's reading (or whether anyone at all is). RSS tips the balance toward words extracted from your site, rather than the "full site experience": how else can RSS subscribers possibly follow as many different sites as they do? And for me at least, it strongly encourages skimming over reading: which is fine when the material isn't worth much more, but again makes speed tend to dominate quality.
