And speaking of Wesley (who's Journal i've been listening to while doing yardwork), i was intrigued by "10 things you'd hate about John Wesley. (and 10 things he'd hate about you.)", courtesy of Ship of Fools. I didn't actually hate them all.

Ken Walker's response to "why i blog" is a pointer to the Cluetrain Manifesto, which could be summarized as "to have a voice" (but it's worth reading the whole thing). It's a good answer.

Tim Bednar, pastor of e-Church has another good answer in "We Know More Than Our Pastors" that really addresses the relevance of blogging as a spiritual disciplne. Apparently he's been getting some press from the Press that wants blogging to be considered "legimitate" press (or at least not be put down as "amateur journalism"). You can find more about Tim's vision in a follow-up interview with HyperGene Media Blog.

Frankly, i suspect part of the buzz is due to journalists who are strangers to organized religion but think blogs are some really new cool thing where the people in the pews are (gasp!) getting involved in discussion and leadership. Kinda sounds like a small group to me, and we certainly didn't invent that idea this century (neither did Wesley, though he used them very effectively). But i think Tim's heading in the right direction.
