The crowd of my life's concerns and activities stand ahead of me, and would keep me from coming to Jesus, the source of my healing. There is no easy path through them: unless i find some other way to go around, or get through, i will stay apart from Him and fail to hear His word to me. No opening is to be found: i must make one, and find others to help me, for the opening will not make itself. Even if i myself am immobilized by coldness and distraction, i must enlist whatever help i can find to draw me closer to Jesus: for to be near Him is infinitely more important than propriety, or the general orderliness of life, or transient things like tile and straw.
"And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door. And he was preaching the word to them. And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, âMy son, your sins are forgiven.â" (Mark.2.2-5)
