3-D Virtual Worship?

I'm not sure whether to believe it, given the Ship of Fools reputation as a humorous website for Christians (for example, their recent contest to invent an 11th Commandment). But according to the BBC, they have plans to launch congregational worship in a 3D virtual space. If genuine, i'd be interested to know how this differs from watching TV church (other than perhaps more variety in the view).
