After a prolonged legal battle with Microsoft over their name, the desktop Linux system formerly known as Lindows is now called Lin---s (pronounced LinDash). Weirder still, this is only in the countries of the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Sweden: elsewhere the name is still Lindows. So there's a link at the top of their two website to click to the appropriately named product.
All of this makes me wonder what else might be considered an infringing name:
- if i started selling a system called Lin-s (only one dash), would i be infringing on Lin---s' name?
- what if i called my system LinDashes?
- if i want to refer to their name without actually saying it, do i use Lin***s (in the tradition of Un*x)?
It's all so confusing.
